The problem we kept running into

Roughly 10 to 20 percent of women in North America have some level of nickel sensitivity. If you are one of them, you already know the pattern. The cute necklace from a Saturday market leaves a green stain on your collarbone. The earrings from a popular DTC brand make your lobes red within hours. The hypoallergenic label on the package was a lie, or at least an oversimplification. The base metal underneath the thin gold plating was brass or copper, both of which contain nickel.

Within weeks of daily wear, the plating wears through and the nickel underneath sits against your skin for hours per day. The result is a reaction the brand never warned you about, on a piece they sold you as safe for sensitive skin.

How we make jewelry differently

Every Caeli piece starts with the same base: 316L surgical grade stainless steel. This is the medical grade material used in pacemakers, joint replacements, and orthopedic implants. 316L is chosen for those applications specifically because it is widely documented in dermatology and medical device literature as a low nickel release material. It is the standard for jewelry intended for people with metal allergies.

The visible finish is 14K gold plating at 2.5 plus microns thick. That is roughly 25 to 50 times thicker than the gold layer on standard plated fashion jewelry. The thickness is why our pieces hold up to years of daily wear instead of weeks.

Because our base metal is stainless steel and not sterling silver, our pieces are correctly labeled as 14K gold plated stainless steel, not vermeil. Why we make only 100 of each design

Every Caeli design is produced in a single run of exactly 100 individually numbered pieces. When the run sells out, that design is permanently retired. We do not reorder. We do not reissue. We do not bring it back as a season two.

This is not a marketing gimmick. It is a design constraint we accept at the start of every production run. The result is that every piece you own belongs to a closed collection. There will never be more than 100 in existence. The woman who buys a Caeli piece knows it is not going to become a mass piece next year.

It also means there is no manufactured urgency, no countdown timer, no fake scarcity. The runs sell at the speed they sell at. When they are gone, they are gone. We will tell you honestly when a piece is close to retiring.

Honest about what we are and are not

We are not solid gold. Solid 14K gold is a beautiful material and beyond the budget of an everyday jewelry wardrobe for most women. We give you the look and the daily wearability at a much lower price.

We are not gold filled. Gold filled has a thicker bonded gold layer but typically uses brass as the base. Brass can still cause reactions in highly sensitive individuals.

We are not standard plated fashion jewelry. Standard plating is 0.05 to 0.1 microns thick and wears off within weeks. Ours is 25 to 50 times thicker than that.
