We use 316L surgical steel as the base, the same medical grade alloy used in pacemakers and orthopedic implants. We finish it with 14K gold plating at 2.5 plus microns, roughly 25 to 50 times thicker than the gold layer on standard fashion plating. The base is what makes the necklace safe for sensitive skin. The plating is what gives you the warm gold look that holds up to daily wear. Every necklace is part of a single production run of 100 pieces. No. Green skin comes from copper or brass bases reacting with sweat and body acids. 316L surgical steel does not oxidize that way. Can I shower and sleep in a Caeli necklace? Yes. The 2.5 plus micron plating is water resistant and the steel base does not corrode. For longest life, rinse after pool or ocean exposure. How do I layer multiple necklaces?
