These are two different constructions rather than a better and a worse one. Mejuri's vermeil line is gold over a sterling silver base, which meets the FTC definition of vermeil and is generally regarded in the trade as a more precious construction than gold plating over stainless steel. Sterling can also be re-plated by a jeweler later, which steel cannot. Caeli is 14K gold plating over a 316L surgical steel base. We do not publish a plating specification, because we have not independently verified one, so we make no claim that our finish outlasts anyone else's.
What is different rather than better: our base is stainless steel rather than brass or silver, our pieces are water resistant, and every design is made in an edition of 100.
